Audio Tours | by Lake Ledge Naturalist
Audio Interpretation is fun and engaging. A powerful tool that forges emotional and intellectual connections
Effective audio experiences are those that are a direct extension of the interpreterInterpretation first, we like to say. We're not a technology company. We are interpreters who provide audio support services. We offer solutions that incorporate narrative, language, audio description and soundscape. We develop interactive audio projects with audio pen technology, podcasts and mobile experiences.
Each experience Lake Ledge designs stays grounded in theme and content to bring the visitor deeper into the story. How did we get into the development of these audio tours you ask? Well, it started one day... |
Audio services should be simple and accessible. Audio should deepen the experience and expand your audience Which Technology?
|
This is the "extension of us" technology we've been talking aboutLake Ledge offers DiscoveryPEN sales, audio description, project development and staff training for those in North America. We like this tool. It fits our requirement: that audio interpretation should be an extension of the interpreter, not a distraction.
It allows the power of audio interpretation to stand alone. When audio is triggered the device practically disappears in the hand- there are no distractions and it is easy to use. We can toss the pen in our pack to use with groups or hand the audio pen to a visitor during the off season when staff is limited or during the peak season when there are only so many interpreters to go around. |
Do it YourselfCreate and manage your own content and layout or ask us for support. We'll help from concept to installation or just provide you with the technology and print service. It is up to you and your budget.

The ToolThe DiscoveryPEN is a hand held electronic audio device developed by Mantra Lingua Ltd, a forward thinking publishing company with a technological edge.
Based in the UK , Mantra Lingua is also the world’s largest publisher of dual language books supporting 52 languages. The pen was introduced to the interpretive arena in the US in 2011 when Lake Ledge came across the device as a way to provide audio description for an accessible nature trail in Wisconsin. The collaboration emerged. |
The TechnologySound is triggered when the pen sensor reads a printed code. Mantra Lingua's technology has been successfully used in children’s educational resources, labelling for the blind and partially sighted and the birding community in the UK.
Now the tool is enriching the experience of visitors to interpretive sites in the US by providing affordable and interactive audio description and audio interpretation. |
The TeamLake Ledge Naturalist handles DiscoveryPEN sales in North America. We collaborate on interpretive projects with pen manufacturer and publishing house, Mantra Lingua. We research further interpretive use case scenarios and provide interpretive project support.
